Golf Cart Dealer Negotiation Tips | How to Save $1,000+

How to negotiate with a golf cart dealer. Learn the "Out-the-Door" price strategy, when to walk away, and how to get free accessories.

Master the Deal: Golf Cart Dealer Negotiation Tips

Negotiating for a golf cart is different than negotiating for a car. Dealers have smaller margins per unit, but they have much more "wiggle room" on accessories, service, and financing.

Use these five tips to save $1,000 or more on your next purchase.

1. Focus on the "Out-the-Door" (OTD) Price

Dealers love to quote a low "MSRP" and then add $800 in freight, $400 in assembly, $300 in prep fees, and a "doc fee."

  • The Strategy: Only negotiate the final number. Say: "I want to be at $12,500 total, including tax, title, and all fees. How we get there is up to you."

2. Negotiate Accessories, Not Dollars

A dealer might not be able to take $500 off the price of the cart, but they can easily throw in a $600 soundbar or a $400 custom steering wheel for free.

  • Why? Their cost on those items is 50% lower than the retail price you see. It cost them $250 to give you $500 in value.

3. The "End of the Month" Myth

In the golf cart world, the "End of the Season" is far more important than the end of the month.

  • Best Time to Buy: November to January. Dealers in the Sun Belt (Florida, Arizona) are getting new shipments and need to clear out "last year's" inventory to avoid paying floor-plan interest.

4. Bring Your Own Financing

Dealers often make an extra $500-$1,000 in "reserve" (commission) if you use their lender.

  • The Strategy: Get pre-approved at your local Credit Union or a specialty lender like Sheffield Financial. If the dealer can't beat that rate, don't use their financing.

5. Be Ready to Walk (The Ultimate Power)

The golf cart market is currently flooded with inventory. There are more ICON, Evolution, and Bintelli dealers than ever before. If a dealer won't budge on a $500 "Admin Fee," thank them for their time and leave. You will likely get a phone call within 48 hours.

Bonus: The "Trade-In" Trap

Don't mention your trade-in until you have a firm price on the new cart. Otherwise, they will simply "adjust" the new cart's price to hide the fact that they are low-balling your trade.
